Probability activities

The students have had the opportunity this week to practice using probability language while playing a variety of games.  Please encourage your child to use words like likely, unlikely, certain, and impossible when discussing the likelihood of events occurring in their daily life.

Probability

Students have begun to learn common probability terms this week.  We will be trying different games in class while using these terms.  Please encourage your child to try some probability games online in our Google classroom (https://classroom.google.com/r/MjE3NjE1NTYy ).

Healthy eating

The students were challenged to create an image using healthy food last week.  Our class decided to make a cat that consisted on cheese, grapes, broccoli, peppers, and a tortilla.  We didn't win the contest, but we had fun making our cat!

Aquarium Visit

On April 19, the Grade 1 and 1/2 classes had the opportunity to visit Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto.  When we arrived, our class participated in a workshop where students learned about the components of an aquarium.  Afterwards, they had the opportunity to create an aquarium of their own.

Our tour included a visit to the "Dangerous Lagoon" where students got up close and personal with sharks and stingrays!

The jellyfish exhibit was a favourite of many students.

Algebra in action

We have been exploring the concept of equality this week using Cuisenaire Rods. Partners worked together to find equivalent expressions.

Algebra-Equations

This week, students have been learning about the concept of equality which will prepare them for equations.

These students are trying to add or subtract cubes to make the scale balance.

Geometry-Symmetry

This week, students have been learning about symmetry.  They used miras to create symmetrical designs.  This student is using a mira to reflect his name.
