Today, York Region EMS services visited Aldergrove. The Grade 1's and 2's had the opportunity to meet a paramedic and learn about the services he performs and equipment that is carried in the ambulance. Students asked many questions and then were allowed to go inside the ambulance. Later, students wrote about their experience.

Play Day
The Primary classes had a great time yesterday as they particpated in 30 different Play Day activities! The student below attempted to toss a ring over a variety of cones to score points. Afterwards, students were treated to a freezie so they could cool down after a hot morning!

Team building activities
Today, our students in the primary division had the opportunity to participate in a variety of team building and problem solving activities. Students learned the importance of communication and cooperation in order to complete a task. And the bonus? It was a lot of fun!

Firefighter Visit!
Yesterday, firefighters visited the primary classes for the final time this year. They treated the students to a refreshing spray from one of their pumper trucks. A fun time was had by all!

New Science topics
In June, the students in Grade 1 will be learning about energy-the different forms, where it comes from, and what they can do to save energy. The Grade 2's will be looking at the properties of solids and liquids.

Healthy eating
The students were challenged to create an image using healthy food last week. Our class decided to make a cat that consisted on cheese, grapes, broccoli, peppers, and a tortilla. We didn't win the contest, but we had fun making our cat!

Aquarium Visit
On April 19, the Grade 1 and 1/2 classes had the opportunity to visit Ripley's Aquarium in Toronto. When we arrived, our class participated in a workshop where students learned about the components of an aquarium. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to create an aquarium of their own.
Our tour included a visit to the "Dangerous Lagoon" where students got up close and personal with sharks and stingrays!
The jellyfish exhibit was a favourite of many students.

Students have been learning about how to read an analog clock this past month. In this activity, students moved the hands to demonstrate their understanding of telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter hour.

Firefighter visit!
In February, firefighters visited our classroom to talk to the students about fire safety. Students learned about the importance of having a plan to exit the home in case of a fire.
