Repeating Patterns

Students have been learning how to solve and create repeating patterns using pattern blocks and by using a computer program.

The Human Body

This week, the Grade 1's learned about the parts of the human body in science class.

 This was a flip book that showed the human body systems.

 These students put the organs on the body apron.

These students examine a model of a skeleton.

Science-Living and Non-Living Things

Grade 1 students have been learning about the needs of living things this term.  This student is sorting living and non-living pictures.

2D pattern block designs

Today, students used pattern blocks to create a picture from a pre-made design. Afterwards, one student designed her own flower.  Later, we discussed what shapes we could use if we didn't have a hexagon.

3D shapes

Students have been learning about 3D shapes over the past week.  They are learning the names and the properties of the shapes.  Students are also learning how to sort the shapes by their similarities.

2D shapes with geoboards

Students used geoboards to create a variety of 2D shapes. After, they drew their shapes on dot paper.
